Ted Tsakas passed away on December 19, 2016 at the age of 88.

He embraced life with a tremendous passion and zeal. He will be remembered for his boundless hyper-energy, enthusiasm, enduring sense of humour, kindness and total compassion for all.

Ted was born and raised in Athens, Greece on March 11, 1928. Ted embraced his Greek heritage, as he was a member of the St. Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church and community.

He arrived in Canada in 1957 embracing both the country and the city of Regina. Regina provided Ted with the opportunity to create a beautiful life for himself, his wife and his three children.

Ted’s working career molded him to be the person everyone knew. His personality was gentle, yet it was stern as any competitor vying for victory, but it was always done with grace no matter the circumstance. After serving briefly in the Greek Army, Ted, his brother Spiro and their dear friend, Gus embarked on a venture to Canada for a better life. After a brief stint in Kitimat, BC, Ted followed his heart and moved back to Regina where he fell in love and married his wife of 55 years.

After acquiring various skills in the army, he took his experience and further developed himself in mechanical maintenance. With this knowledge and skills, Ted worked for 30 plus years in the public sector, 15 years at STC and 18 years at the RCMP.

While his family is proud of Ted’s many accomplishments, especially with humble beginnings, his greatest accomplishment and source of pride came from being a devoted husband, father and grandfather.

As most are aware, Ted was an avid sports enthusiast. He dabbled in mostly all sports, but his two passions were golfing and bowling. Ted spent 45 years-plus as a member of the Royal Regina Golf Club. His love for golf never wavered as he spent most of his retirement years and winter months in Arizona trying to hone those elusive skills.

Ted was predeceased by his parents, Ioanna and Dimitrios (Tsakas); his siblings, Paul, Spiro, Barbara, Evangelia (Lee); and twins at infancy.

He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Regina. Family left to honour his memory include his children, Cindy (Rod), James (Eric), Kelly (Jessica); his grandchildren, Alyssa, Caeley, and Jennifer; as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins throughout Canada, Greece, United States and Brazil.

The family wishes to thank all of our friends, extended family and especially the staff at Pioneer Village who provided care, compassion and companionship for him over the last two and half years.

PRAYERS will be held at St Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church, 3000 Argyle Street, Regina, SK., on Thursday, December 22, 2016 at 7:00 p.m.

A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at St Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church on Friday, December 23, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ted may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, 301, 2550 – 12 Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3X1 or St Paul’s Greek Orthodox Church.

Arrangements entrusted to Regina Funeral Home and Cemetery (306) 789-8850.
