It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Olga Wegner (nee Spitzke) of Regina, SK at the age of 86 years, after a long struggle with many illnesses. Olga passed away peacefully in her sleep on Tuesday, May 23, 2017 at the Pasqua Hospital in Regina.

Olga was born on August 6, 1930, to parents Alexander and Emma Spitzke, on the family farm, 6 miles from Minitonas, MB. Her family had very little, but they managed to live “off the fat of the land” getting by on what they could raise on the farm. Olga always said the only thing they had a lot of, was love.

At the age of 17, Olga met a boy named Rudy at a wedding. It turned out that he was a keeper. Three years later, in 1950, they were married and moved to Rudy’s family farm. For the next 8 years, they nurtured the farm and their love for each other.

Olga’s love of people and her caring heart brought her to a job she loved working with sick children at the Yorkton Hospital.
In 1958, Rudy and Olga moved to Regina where Rudy worked as a mechanic and Olga pursued her dream of hairdressing. One of her proudest achievements was owning her own beauty salon.

Her next career was selling real estate, which continued to satisfy her need for socializing.

Then, in 1970, Olga decided her next profession was staying at home and being a mom for their newly adopted daughter, Sherry. This career turned out to be the most rewarding, since it lasted a lifetime.

Once Sherry was in school, Olga found herself at the Agridome Box Office, and shortly after, she was across the hall with the Regina Pats, as their office manager. This job allowed her to socialize and take care of her “boys,” which meant not just the young players, but the coaches, managers, and owners too.

She retired just in time to start a new career as a grandma, to Brooklyn and Kirk. She approached this new career with all the energy and passion she approached everything in life. Nothing made Olga giggle quite so much as bouncing her grandchildren on and off her knee. Grandma’s knee was better than an exhibition ride.

Olga touched the hearts of everyone she met and based on her stories, she remembered every single person she had ever met! She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and friend.

She will be dearly missed.

She is predeceased by her parents, Emma and Alexander Spitzke; her infant brother, Harold Spitzke; her older brother, Leo Spitzke; and her sister-in-law, Marion Spitzke.

Olga is survived by her husband of 66 years, Rudy Wegner; her daughter, Sherry (Dean) Zacharias; her grandchildren, Brooklyn and Kirk; her sister, Ruth (Dean) Grant; her brother, Eric (Gail) Spitzke and many nieces and nephews.

A special thanks to Bev and the amazing staff at Qu’Appelle House who took such good care of mom. We would also like to thank Dr. Kuczmic for her special care and love for mom.

A CELEBRATION OF OLGA’S LIFE will be held at Regina Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4001 East Victoria Avenue, Regina, SK on Sunday, May 28, 2017 at 1:00 p.m. with lunch to follow. The interment will be held at Regina Funeral Home and Cemetery on Monday, May 29, 2017 at 11:00 a.m.

Donations may be made in honour of Olga to the Ronald McDonald House, 1011 University Drive, Saskatoon, SK S7N 0K4 to help sick children and their families.

Arrangements entrusted to Regina Funeral Home and Cemetery (306) 789-8850.
