It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Rita Marie Wilhelm (Finnerty) on Thursday, September 24, 2015.

Rita is survived by her loving husband, Dr. Bernard Wilhelm, their daughter Jane Wilhelm of Geneva, Switzerland, their son Pierre and his wife Mariela Wilhelm of Edmonton, their children Gabriel, Natalia, Daniel and Jeremy, as well as their son Christophe, his wife Hélène and their children Elise and Thomas of Paris, France. She is also survived by her brother Francis Finnerty and her nieces and nephews and their families in New York State and in Boston, Massachusetts.

Rita was born in Croton-on-Hudson, New York, on December 12, 1926. She married Bernard Wilhelm on August 15, 1953 in Switzerland, where she lived for 14 years raising her three children and teaching English in secondary school.

In 1967, Rita and Bernard, along with their three children, moved from Switzerland to Regina, Saskatchewan, as Bernard had been invited to teach at the University of Regina. In addition to being a mother, as well as having a teaching career of her own, Rita excelled at being a hostess in her home for many events associated with Bernard's academic responsibilities as head of the Bilingual Center.

She taught at O'Neill High School and then at Luther College and was much respected and appreciated by her former students and colleagues. Rita and Bernard were always very appreciative of the generosity of the people of Saskatchewan and of the many friends they made over the years living in Regina.

Farewell, Rita, you touched our hearts and will be truly missed.

A FUNERAL MASS will be held at St. Jean Baptiste Parish, 2517 25th Avenue, Regina, SK on Wednesday September 30, 2015 at 2:00 p.m.

Arrangements entrusted to Regina Funeral Home (306) 789-8850.
