It is with great sadness and much love that we say goodbye to Mel who passed away peacefully with his family by his side in Regina on Monday, April 6, 2015.

Melvin was born to Frank and Gertrude Dixon on the family farm April 22, 1924 at Abernethy, SK. Almost 60 years ago, in August 1955, he married Ruby Audrey Granquist of Willowbrook, SK.

He was predeceased by his father Frank; mother Gertrude; sister Audrey; and infant granddaughter Jasmyne.

Mel is survived by his wife Ruby; daughter Shannon (Jeff Hutton); and granddaughters Jacquelyne and Shantel Hutton; as well as brothers in law; sisters in law, nieces and nephews. In addition to his family, he will be fondly remembered by many friends and neighbours.

Mel farmed for 50 years on the family farm. In 1974 Mel, Ruby and Shannon moved to Regina. Mel then worked at the Plains Heath Centre for the next 15 years before he retired. He was a member of the Masons for 60 years, including a time as Grand Master.

He enjoyed summers at the family cottage at Lake Katepwa, had a great love of animals (especially his dogs) and travelled through the years to many places in North America. Mel had a terrific memory, often retelling stories of his past in great detail (including the weather on a certain day).

Mel requested no public service be held. A private graveside service will be held at a later date.

Those wishing, may make a donation in Mel’s name to Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 279 3rd Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK S7K 2H8, the Canadian Diabetes Association, 917A Albert Street, Regina, SK S4R 2P6 or to the Regina Humane Society, PO Box 3143, Regina, SK S4P 3G7.

Arrangements entrusted to Regina Funeral Home (306) 789-8850.
