Ruth Nelson
January 29, 1921 - August 11, 2016
Ruth was born on January 29, 1921 in Kelowna, BC to parents Robert and Mary (Bird) Nelson.
After moving from Kelowna and living in Calgary for four years, the family made a permanent move to Regina in 1929.
Ruth had no siblings but was blessed throughout her life with a strong network of caring and supportive friends who shared her interests and passions.
Ruth had a great love for music her entire life. She was a pianist, organist, choir member and director at First Baptist Church, a founder of the Regina Philharmonic Chorus and sang at the first Rotary Carol Festival, along with many more after that. For decades she was a dedicated subscriber to the Regina Symphony Orchestra. After 44 years of working for the Department of Highways, Ruth retired and immersed herself in numerous volunteer activities. Volunteering the ‘gift of time’ was something she did so well, and truly believed in doing. Another passion of Ruth’s was travelling with her friends and she managed to enjoy many different exotic locales around the world over the years.
Ruth was a devout member of First Baptist Church for 81 years and attended regularly until her health began to decline.
Ruth passed away peacefully on Thursday, August 11, 2016.
We wish to thank Wintergreene Estates for the excellent care Ruth received in the past two years. We also wish to thank Dr. K. Lyster and the staff at the Pasqua Hospital Medical Surveillance Unit. The compassion and kindness you showed to Ruth will always be appreciated.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at First Baptist Church, 2241 Victoria Avenue, Regina, SK on Wednesday, August 17, 2016 at 1:30 p.m. with Reverend John Nelson officiating. Interment took place at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Ruth may be made to the First Baptist Church, 2241 Victoria Ave, Regina, SK S4P 0S4.
Arrangements entrusted to Regina Funeral Home and Cemetery (306) 789-8850.
