It is with sadness we announce the passing of Josie Boers on Thursday, July 24, 2014 at the age of 85 years.

Josie was predeceased by her beloved "Lanky" Alvin Boers, her husband of 58 years.

Josie is survived by her brother Donald Ashford; sisters June Wright and Beverly Ashford; as well as nieces and nephews.

Josephine Gertrude was born to James and Sybil Ashford August 2, 1928 on the "Toronto Farm" at Ralph Saskatchewan. She went to school in Ralph until 1941, and then moved with her family to the village of Lajord, and later Rowatt.

Josie attended Balfour Tech where she completed her Commercial Courses. In order for Josie to attend secondary school in Regina, her father purchased a house on 15th Avenue where she and Lanky later lived the remainder of their lives.

Josie worked for Saskatchewan Hospitalization and several other companies mainly in the field of accounting. Josie married Lanky in 1954. She began working at Prairie Motorcycle where Lanky worked as a mechanic in 1972, and they later became partners in the business with Grant Bud in 1979. Josie's life passion was looking after the business and customers of Prairie Motorcycle until her health prevented her from coming to work daily in January of 2010.

Josie took great pride in finding the most practical riding gear or correct part for each customer. Her honest straight forward attitude enabled the customers to be prepared for all they would encounter.

Josie also loved baking a multitude of delectable cookies and tarts for the annual Christmas Eve party at Prairie Motorcycle. Having no children of her own she reveled in her "Motorcycle Family Christmas" each year right down to the nip of scotch in the back room.

Josie was also passionate about motorcycling with Lanky. While never a rider herself, she loved nothing more than to ride along with Lanky on many an adventure. She and Lanky rode to and participated in the Black Hills Rally in Sturgis for an impressive 49 consecutive years. She was truly an institution of the motorcycling community.

Josie spent her final years in the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre, and became a beloved resident to all of section 2-6. She would spend her days wheeling around the halls socializing with the staff and fellow residents. She greatly looked forward to Lanky's daily visits and musical interludes while he played honky tonky piano for all. Josie's smile and laugh will be missed.

A heartfelt thank you goes out to the wonderful caring staff of section 2-6 at the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre for becoming part of Josie’s extended family and loving her as one of their own.

In lieu of flowers those wishing to do so may make donations to Hospitals of Regina, WRC 2-6, Suite 225 1874 Scarth St., Regina, SK. S4P 4B3.

A CELEBRATION OF JOSIE’S LIFE will be held at Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, Regina, SK on Wednesday, July 30 at 2:00 p.m.

Arrangements entrusted to Regina Funeral Home (306) 789-8850.
