It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Irene Blehm on Tuesday, February 17, 2015 after a long illness. We, her Family, lost and will always remember our mother, grandmother and great grandmother.

She was predeceased by Herb Blehm, her husband of 57 years; her sister Iris; and her brother Art.

Irene is survived by her brother Earl; and by her Family: daughter Deborah (Allan McNutt); son Kim; grandchildren Shauna (Ken Wheeler), Steven, Keven and Lisa Blehm; great grandchildren Josh and Brady Wheeler. Irene is also survived by many nieces and nephews and their children and by many friends. Irene was born in 1928 in Earl Grey to Robert and Laura Ward, the second of four children (Earl, Irene, Iris, Art).

She was raised on a farm but continued her education to become a teacher, allowing her to extend her love of helping others. Initially she worked in the communities of Southey, Earl Grey and Cupar. In 1950 she married Herb Blehm and this started her Family. Herb’s work required frequent moves to communities in Saskatchewan ending in a move to Regina. Irene continued her teaching in many of the towns they called home, including Wadena.

Irene found great enjoyment from bowling and curling with friends, playing piano, gardening, playing bridge which she did until becoming ill. Irene had even more enjoyment from her Family, raising her children and cherishing time spent with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. To Irene there was nothing more important than Family. Irene will be deeply missed and remembered by Family and by those who had a chance to know her.

Her family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of Unit 3B at the Pasqua Hospital for the excellent and loving care they provided during Irene’s last months.

At Irene’s request there will be no service.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Irene’s memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina, SK S4P 2R3 or to Friends of Unit 3B at the Pasqua Hospital, 4101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, SK S4T 1A5.

Arrangements entrusted to Regina Funeral Home (306) 789-8850.
