Gordon Usherwood
February 2, 1931 - July 17, 2015
Gordon “Gord” passed away suddenly on Friday, July 17, 2015 at the age of 84 years in Mission BC. He was born in Regina, SK on February 2, 1931, the second of three children born to Roy and Mary Usherwood.
He grew up on his parent’s farm in the R.M. of Edenwold where he attended Etaples School and made many lifelong friends. Gordon enjoyed many activities; playing hockey and baseball, hunting, and fishing and attending Etaples events. Gordon briefly farmed alongside his dad, brother Hugh and his uncle Jack.
Gordon moved to Regina in 1956 and joined the Regina Fire Department in 1958.
Gordon married Joann Leslie in 1959 and they settled in Regent Park, where they lived and raised their children, Cheryl and Robert. Gordon and his family enjoyed many camping holidays and used their “Boler” trailer to travel across Canada and into parts of USA. Gordon worked for the Fire Department for 36 years and at the time of his Retirement in January 1994 held the title of Platoon Captain.
Post retirement Gordon and Joann took several trips including; Australia, Thailand, Spain, Europe and cruises around South America, Alaska and Hawaii. Most recently they spent winters in Mesa, AZ. Gord enjoyed; puttering in his garage/workshop, garden and listening to Polka music.
Gordon was most delighted by his five grandchildren and made many visits to see them. In 2010 Gordon was diagnosed with Parkinson’s and his health declined. In 2013, Gordon and Joann made the difficult decision to sell their home of 51 years and move to BC. Shortly afterwards Gordon’s condition worsened and he moved into long-term care in Mission where he was residing at the time of his passing.
Gordon was predeceased by his parents; his brother; and brother-in-law.
Left to mourn his passing is his wife of 55 years Joann; his children Cheryl (Steven) Marsh, Robert (Debbie) Usherwood; his grandchildren, Thomas, Heather and Sarah Marsh, Lauren and Lindsey Usherwood; his sister Ethel (Michael) Potter; sister-in-law Myrtle (Hugh) Usherwood; as well as nephews, niece, friends, neighbours and Firefighter Brothers/Sisters.
A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, Regina, SK on Monday July 27, 2015 at 2:00 p.m. with reception to follow. A Private Interment will be held at a later date.

“Today the world seems a little emptier, with a little less laughter and wisdom. We are heartbroken but accept his pain is no more and he has gone on ahead to the place that we shall meet again.”
Arrangements entrusted to Regina Funeral Home (306) 789-8850.
