Gladys Muriel Boyko (nee Pickard) was born on May 30, 1917 in Winnipeg, MB and passed away on Saturday, May 21, 2016 at Sunset Extendicare in Regina, SK, just 10 days shy of her 99th birthday.

She was predeceased by her beloved father, Albert Harry Pickard; mother Marguerite Pickard; husband Michael Boyko; daughter Muriel Buchan; son-in-law Buck Buchan; daughter Patricia Mass; son Gary Boyko; sister Dorris Fee; brother-in-law Raymond Fee; and brother Raymond Pickard.

Gladys is survived by her children, sons Wayne (Marilyn) Boyko, Bob Boyko, Kelley (Crystal) Boyko and Perry Boyko; daughters Margaret Brown, Maryann Boyko, Marilyn (Gary) Abel, Rosalind Ferguson, Sonya Boyko, Sharon Boyko, Leslie Boyko, Reno Boyko, Michelle Boyko and Sylvia Lerat; daughters-in-law Laverne Boyko and Lorraine Boyko; and son-in-law Dennis Mass. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews; along with 30 grandchildren, 36 great grandchildren and 22 great great grandchildren.

Gladys’ start in life was not easy, but she made it through and everything changed when she met the love of her life Michael Boyko and they married in 1937. Together they shared a home filled with laughter and love. Her passion was to take care of any and all children that walked through her door.

She devoted her entire life to this and throughout her incredible life, she took in over 200 children through foster care. Anyone that had the privilege of visiting that special house on the 1500 block of Argyle knew they were instantly welcomed and her house was always open to them. Her house was a gathering place, whether it was for her daily 3 o’clock tea time, celebrating Christmas and even Halloween, where she would try on any mask for a good laugh.

Her humour was infectious, everyone around her couldn’t help but laugh.

She has left us with a big void to fill, but knowing Gladys, she would want us to laugh instead of feeling sorrow.

A CELEBRATION OF GLADYS’ INCREDIBLE LIFE will be held at Regina Funeral Home and Cemetery, 4001 East Victoria Avenue, Regina, SK on her birthday on Monday, May 30, 2016 at 2:00 p.m.

The family would like to send out a Special Thank You to the Incredible Staff at Sunset Extendicare for taking care of Gladys as if she was their own mother, we hope you enjoyed her beautiful songs.

In lieu of flowers, we kindly ask donations be made to the Salvation Army, 2240 13th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3M7, as it was very near to Gladys’ heart and how she met the love of her life. While Gladys was playing in the Salvation Army Band, Michael walked up and dropped his number in the collection plate instead, and the rest was history.

Arrangements entrusted to Regina Funeral Home and Cemetery (306) 789-8850.
