It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Don (Donny) Newman, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.

Don was predeceased by his parents Alex and Kate Newman; and both his sisters Genevieve Becker and Arlene Runge.

Don is survived by his loving wife Dorothy (nee Raymond); his children Nadine (Brian) Jensen, Todd (Michelle) Newman, Dellee Sjogren (Pat Clavelle), Jason Newman (Monique Findlay); grandchildren Lee, Kyle (Savanah), Cole, Taylor, Dawson, Zachary, and Nicholas; and great grandchild Kash.

Don passed away peacefully at Golden Prairie Home in Indian Head on Friday, September 30, 2016.

Don was born and raised on the farm south of McLean, SK and was the youngest of three children. Quitting school at an early age to help out on the farm, he continued working alongside his father, hauling cream to town and tending the fields.

Don’s generosity was only surpassed by his love to dance. Often the first one on the dance floor, and the last one to leave! He also loved singing in the barn while milking the cows, playing fastball, hunting, and helping others whenever the opportunity arose.

Don married his wife of 56 years, Dorothy, in 1960 in Regina, and started their family on the farm. In 1968 they moved to Regina where he worked as a stationary engineer, all the while continuing to spend most of his spare time, also working on the farm. Don eventually grew tired of city life and returned to the farm, which was where he always wanted to be. There he spent several years enjoying the peaceful lifestyle and his grandchildren, while grain farming, raising chicken, guinea hens, and cattle.

We would like to thank Golden Prairie Home for making his last years comfortable and allowing him to continue dancing and enjoying the music he loved so much.

At Don’s request, a private interment with immediate family will take place later in the week.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, 301, 2550 – 12 Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3X1 or the Arthritis Society, 110, 2550 – 12th Avenue, Regina, SK S4P 3X1.

Arrangements entrusted to Regina Funeral Home and Cemetery (306) 789-8850.
