David was born February 15, 1929 and sadly he passed away on Thursday, February 16, 2017 at the age of 88 years.

He was predeceased by his parents John and Winnifred; and brother-in-law Howard Maxson.

He is survived by his wife Edna McFarland; sister Joan Maxson; brother Bill McFarland (Thea); daughter Sheila McFarland (Moe Kermani); sons Jeff McFarland (Eileen) and Terry McFarland; grandchildren Kamran, Kyle and Tammy (Nevada); and great-grandchildren Bryson and Alexander.

David lived a full life and will be truly missed. He was born in Regina to parents who immigrated separately from Ireland as young adults and met here. He loved sailing at the boat house on Wascana Lake as a teenager, while earning his way as a car mechanic.

David and Edna were married in 1949 and raised their three children in the house they built which still stands today.

After becoming a father, he studied to become an electrician entirely by correspondence; he was a licensed journeyman electrician until his passing. He spent many years at the old Power House in a job he absolutely loved. After the Power House closed, he worked line and substation repairs with SaskPower.

After retirement, he enjoyed volunteering at Sunset Extendicare, helping people with every type of repair job, and travelling to BC to visit his sister. He was a long time member of the YMCA. He often wore a smile and had a welcome joke up his sleeve. He seemed happiest when he was helping others.

By request there will be no service. A Celebration of Life Tea is planned for later spring.

David supported his favourite charities, so in lieu of flowers please make a donation to a charity dear to you.

Arrangements entrusted to Regina Funeral Home and Cemetery (306) 789-8850.
