Darlene Carroll Jones
August 10, 1941 - May 16, 2016
I was born in small town Saskatchewan on August 10, 1941 and my parents moved to Regina in 1942 where I remained for the balance of my life, until my passing on Monday, May 16, 2016.
I was the youngest of 7 children and grew up in the Cathedral area and went to Holy Rosary Elementary and Sacred Heart Academy.
I became an avid Roughrider fan at the age of 10 and my love of the team has never waned. I had a most interesting career working for the city, provincial and federal governments and met and worked with some incredibly influential people along the way. I am truly grateful for the opportunities that I had.
In 1965 I met Gary Jones and we were married in 1966. Our son Scott was born in 1975 and became the highlight of our life.
When I was first diagnosed with cancer in 1995 my goal was to survive to see Scott graduate from university and embark on his career. I was fortunate to attend his convocation in 1999 and witnessed the start of a great career. He has made us incredibly proud with his achievements.
Many good and healthy years followed for me. Gary, Scott and I took a wonderful holiday in the fall of 2009 to Prague, Salzburg, Vienna and Munich and I am so glad we did not delay that trip as it would not have happened a year later.
Gary and I also were fortunate enough to spend some months in Palm Springs to get away from the Saskatchewan cold.
I was predeceased by my parents Michael and Elizabeth Bollinger; sisters Mary Ann Bollinger, Evelyn Hansen, Margaret Hugel; brother Edward; and my furry friends Miss Kitty, Sam, Sua and Fluffy.
I am survived by my husband Gary; son Scott of Ottawa; brother Bill of Osage, Iowa; and several nieces, nephews and their families.
At my request there will be no funeral service. A private family burial will take place at a later date.
Flowers most gratefully declined. Those wishing may make donations to the Regina Humane Society, PO Box 3143, Regina, SK S4P 3G7, or Allan Blair Cancer Centre, 4101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, SK S4T 7T1.
I would be remiss if I didn’t thank all the people who gave me encouragement along the way to fight the good fight and for all your prayers and good wishes. Your caring has meant a lot to me. God bless you all, keep a smile on your face and don’t ever lose your sense of humour.
Arrangements entrusted to Regina Funeral Home and Cemetery (306) 789-8850.
