<div itemprop="description">On Friday, July 25, 2014 Carol passed away at the Regina Wascana Grace Hospice after a battle with cancer. <br /><br />Carol was born and raised in Estevan, SK. She was the youngest daughter of Knute and Ida Petterson. <br /><br />Carol was predeceased by her parents; husband Neil; brother Dr Eugene &ldquo;Bud&rdquo; Petterson (Edith); nephew Blair; and brothers-in-law Gerald Ross and John Yeomans. <br /><br />She leaves to cherish her memory her children Brian, Barry and Sandra; sisters Elaine Yeomans and her children Mark and Scott (Sara) and Harriet &ldquo;Susie&rdquo; Ross and her children Shelleen, Laurie (Brad) and Kevin (Laurie); nieces Debbie Komjathy and Linda Petterson; brother-in-law Lynn Southam (Diane); as well many Petterson cousins. <br /><br />Carol married Neil Southam, son of Richard and Hazel Southam of Gainsborough, SK on September 2, 1961. They made their home in Regina. They travelled to Australia, Mexico and South Africa, where they went on a safari. Neil&rsquo;s passion for bear hunting took them to many parts of Saskatchewan and Alberta. <br /><br />In 1975, Carol received a Bachelor of Education degree from the University of Regina. Always kind and generous, Carol was very active at home and in the community. She was an excellent cook and hostess. She loved working in her flower garden and made beautiful flower arrangements for special family occasions. In the community, she was a member of the University of Regina Women, curled with three curling clubs, and played bridge with several groups. <br /><br />A very spiritual person, Carol strived to make the world a better place. In recent years, she was an active volunteer in the Regina Apostolic Church. Carol visited Israel three times with her church, and had recently graduated from the church&rsquo;s Master Commission course. As part of the Masters Commission, she served two weeks at an orphanage in Guatemala. As a member of Freedom Catalyst, she worked to end human trafficking. <br /><br />Carol&rsquo;s illness began in December 2013. The family is grateful to have met Mike, Patient Advocate at the General Hospital Emergency. On May 9, 2014, she was transferred from the Regina General Hospital into palliative care at Regina Wascana Grace Hospice. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Regina Wascana Grace Hospice for the kindness and excellent care that they gave Carol during her time there. <br /><br />A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at Regina Funeral Home, Hwy #1 East, Regina, SK on Friday, August 1, 2014 at 2:00 p.m. with Reverend Merv Switzer of the Regina Apostolic Church officiating. <br /><br />In lieu of flowers, friends so wishing may make donations in memory of Carol to the University of Regina, Neil Southam Memorial Fund, Wascana Grace Hospice, 50 Angus Road, Regina, SK S4R 8P6 or to a charity of their choice. <br /><br />Arrangements entrusted to Regina Funeral Home (306) 789-8850.</div>
