Anne Muma
June 24, 1933 - May 22, 2017
With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Anne Elizabeth Muma on Monday, May 22, 2017.
Anne is survived by her loving husband, Herbert, of 57 years. She is also survived by her children, son, Dean (Valerie) and grandchildren Peter (Sarah), Evelyn (Robin), Michael (Deanna), Jeffrey and Laura; son, Darin (Nicole Parent) and grandchildren Katherine-Louise and Patrick; daughter Denise (Kerry Hovind) and grandson, Keith. Anne was born on June 24, 1933 on a small farm near Alvena, Saskatchewan. Anne was one of ten children born to Michael and Maria Zabachenski. Three of Anne’s siblings, have survived her, including Christina Pitchko (Regina), Regina Stefaniuk (Saskatoon) and Adeline Reid (Calgary).
Anne left the farm and went to Saskatoon in 1950 to finish high school at Bedford Road Collegiate. In 1952 she moved to Regina and began her career with SaskTel.
Anne and Herb met each other at a YW/YMCA dance in 1954, shortly after he had been admitted to the RCMP Training Academy in Regina. In true RCMP fashion she got her man, and they were married on October 24, 1959. Anne and Herb settled and raised their family in Regina, where they lived for over 50 years.
Anne led a busy family life being involved in her children’s, community and church activities, while continuing to work full time. She welcomed and enjoyed the addition of her children’s spouses, and grandchildren to her family. She liked to read with her children and grandchildren and grew a bountiful garden for their fancy including raspberries, tomatoes, peas, carrots and roses. She maintained a close relationship with many of her nieces and nephews.
Anne loved “the Riders”. She started as an usher for the games and was a season ticket holder for many years.
Anne’s career at SaskTel spanned almost 40 years before she retired in December of 1991. She progressed through many levels at SaskTel, including from mail clerk to Business Office Supervisor, and led numerous special projects. For her, if a job was worthwhile doing, it was worth doing well.
Following retirement she engaged in social activities and charity work with the SaskTel Pioneers, the CWL and the Blue Mantel. Anne maintained friendships with many of those with whom she worked with at SaskTel. She was also involved, with Herb, in the RCMP Veterans Association, and along with Herb was awarded a lifetime membership by the RCMP Heritage Centre for their charity work.
In their retirement Anne and Herb took the opportunity to travel to various places including Australia, New Zealand, Thailand, Mexico, many places in the USA, and across Canada from coast to coast and north to the Yukon.
In 2011 Anne and Herb moved from their home in Regina to their new home at Mission Lake, Saskatchewan. There she enjoyed the scenery and peacefulness of the beautiful Qu’Appelle Valley and more frequent boat rides.
Unfortunately during her later years Anne suffered the debilitating grip of degenerating health. Herb lovingly looked after her until she was admitted to the Balcarres Integrated Care Centre where she spent the final 4 years of her life.
We extend our sincere thanks to the kind and caring staff at BICC. Anne has now been released from the chains of her illness, and we pray that she may rest peacefully in God’s arms.
