It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Alistair Donald Mackenzie after a brave fight against cancer. Alistair passed away on July 22, 2016 in Regina with his loving wife Ann by his side. During his final days he was surrounded by his beloved family - his mother, children and sisters, along with many friends and comrades.

Alistair leaves to cherish his memory, those he loved, and in turn who loved him: his wife Ann (nee McCrorie); children Sarah (Christopher), Nicole, Jenna, and Reuben; grandchildren, Hailey, Peyton, and Jonny; sisters, Fiona (Andrew) and Marjorie; brothers in laws Aaron (Carmen) and Ian; nieces and nephews, Stephanie, Michael, Emma, Molly, Liam, Kennedy and Keira; and of course his mother Elizabeth.

He was predeceased by his father Iain. He is also fondly remembered by all his aunts, uncles, cousins and friends both in Canada and abroad.

Alistair was born in Motherwell, Scotland to Iain and Elizabeth Mackenzie on October 8, 1963. The family immigrated to Canada in 1967 to Kilmar, Quebec, then moved to Montreal (Point Claire) where he spent most of his childhood. From there, the family moved to Toronto where Alistair briefly lived before settling in Vancouver.

Alistair started working for BC Rail as a conductor moving to Southern in 2004. During his time with Southern Rail he held several positions, including brakeman and conductor. In addition he became increasingly active with his union - the Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE). As a result, in 2009, he left railroading to pursue a career with CUPE as a National Servicing Representative. It was with CUPE that he found his calling. He loved his job with CUPE and he was recognized as being fair, dedicated to the members he represented, and well respected by employer and members. Reflective of his commitment to union values, Alistair was also quite active in CSU, where he was a member of that national bargaining team.

In 2011, Alistair moved to Regina, Saskatchewan to be closer to his daughter, Sarah and his grandchildren. And it was in Regina that Alistair met the love of his life - Ann.

Alistair and Ann married in 2013 and in doing so he acquired 3 more children! Alistair was a loving and positive influence in the life of all his children and grandchildren, who were all better off for having him in their life. Alistair and Ann were devoted to each other, and together they indulged their love of travel with trips to Scotland, New York, Ottawa, Prince Edward Island, and California. It is therefore fitting that when confronted with the diagnosis of cancer Ann and Alistair took one last trip together to Vancouver Island.

Family and friends will remember Alistair's intelligent wit, kindness, passion, commitment and courage. He was an adventurer who loved cooking, build projects, and travel.

His homeland of Scotland held a very special piece of his heart; his connection to his birth home ran deep and he identified as much as Scottish as he did Canadian. His open heart and inclusiveness will be missed by all who had the good fortune to cross paths with him, because to know him really was to love him.

A private family celebration will be held.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kids Sport Regina, www.kidsportcanada.ca or Creative Kids, www.creativekidssask.ca

Arrangements entrusted to Regina Funeral Home and Cemetery (306) 789-8850.
